The Ultimate 4K 60Hz Mac Pro System: Plug and play 4K functionality with incredible performance

The best option for running a 60Hz 4K monitor on OS X: The Create Pro Mac Pro 4K system

Long has 4K at 60Hz been just a dream for OS X users, but with SST monitors starting to appear on the market alongside their MST relatives, now is the time for 4K adoption.
4K OS X 60 HZSST (single stream transport) monitors differ from their MST (multi stream transport) cousins in that they use a single display panel rather than multiple panels, this allows SST displays to output 4K at 60Hz on a Mac Pro without any software hacking or long winded workarounds. Previously, MST displays were locked to 30Hz when outputting at 4K resolution, which is less than ideal for many professional users.
Obviously a 4K monitor needs to be paired with a 4K capable system, if you’re working with 4K video then you’re going to need something powerful.
We have decided to put together a couple of custom 4K system specifications paired with our 4K monitor of choice, the LG 31MU97-B, this 31″ 4K display is packed with features, it uses an IPS panel (perfect for colour accuracy), is rated at over 99.5% Adobe RGB, has a 10-bit colour depth and much more. You can read more about the LG 31MU97-B monitor here.

What makes a good 4K Mac Pro system?

A powerful multi-core CPU

  • When working with 4K footage a powerful CPU is essential, this is why both of our 4K systems employ our most powerful 12 core 3.46GHz CPU option.

An advanced GPU for GPGPU accelerated computing

  • As modern day video editing and grading applications make great use of GPGPU computing platforms, such as OpenCL & CUDA, having a powerful GPU can hugely increase your 4K performance. We choose to use the latest generation of Nvidia GPUs in our 4K systems as they are extremely powerful whilst being incredibly power efficient.

A large amount of RAM

  • 4K video files are usually around 4 times larger than their 1080p counterparts, for this reason a large amount of RAM is needed to ensure efficient computing.

Super-fast PCI-e based storage for OS X, applications & plug-ins

  • Store your OS, apps & plug-ins on an SSD or flash storage module for the fastest possible data transfer speeds, ensuring your system runs at it’s quickest.
